Healthy Students on a Budget: What's in Robyn's Shopping Cart?

Today is supposed to be my post about my shopping cart. I thought this was a great idea when we came up with it, but the more I think the more difficulties arise. Since I still live at home my Mom does the grocery shopping, problem 1. I'm also probably one of the pickiest eaters of life, problem 2. But I am going to do my best to make it interesting. You will see my list starts at the beginning of the store and goes through so I'm not bouncing around everywhere and picking stuff up I don't need. However when I go with my mom I tend to venture off because who really cares about what can of beans to get and I pick up stuff I shouldn't. Case and point right there. For this we will pretend that I don't, although if you want to treat yourself once in a while that is okay, everything in moderation! I get this from Walmart. Oh, speaking of, a really good tip is to price match! Bring your flyers and compare, if you see something cheaper somewhere else Walmart will match that price. I also don't buy a lot of fruit. This is because my Dad works for a trucking company that delivers produce so we get a lot of stuff from there. Extras and such.

My Shopping Cart

-Tomatoes on a vine (save money by buying them on the vine)
-Bag of potatoes (buy seasonal, sometimes local isn't cheaper)
-Cucumber
-Bag of onions
-Mango
-Bananas
-Lettuce (usually romaine but if iceberg looks better I get that)
-Pomegranates when they are in season
-Clementines
-Loaf of bread (the white kind with the nutrients in it, I hate whole wheat)
-Shaved turkey
-Shaved ham
-Hamburger meat
-Chicken breasts
-Cans of veggies (peas, peas & carrots, corn, etc.)
-Taco seasoning (always good to whip up tacos or nachos for a last minute meal)
-Uncle Ben's Rice
-Vitamin water (lots, this is my fave)
-Spices if I need any
-Frozen fries
-Frozen wings
-Frozen egg rolls
-Frozen fruit mix
-Eggs
-Orange juice
-Milk
-Yogurt

See, its rather boring and plain, but I eat a lot of stuff from frozen to make it easier.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

  1. I used to always buy Uncle Ben's rice until one day I decided I couldn't pass up a great deal at WalMart - a GIANT bag of Jasmine rice (yumm!) for $5. I've had it since I moved into my apartment in September and it'll still be enough to last another couple months! The rice is amazing and never goes bad and you can't go wrong for $5!
I also bought a cheap rice cooker for $20 at Canadian tire. Make quick and easy dinners for cheap!
